A lifelong passion for great storytelling and the powerful narratives of history has always drawn me to those rare moments where the past truly feels human. One significant moment in our national story is George Washington’s departure from public life. Rather than a cold, legalistic warning, I wanted to explore the man behind the monument and the spirit of the message he left for us.
A Script Written from the Heart
My portrayal of Washington’s Final Testament is an imagined piece of storytelling. I’ve approached this seeking the "Softened Historical Realism" of his spirit—imagining the warm, living words he might offer if he were speaking directly to our hearts today. I wanted to capture a version of Washington that speaks to us not with a finger pointed in blame, but with a hand extended in guidance.
An Example of Leadership
In my "origin story" for this project, I reflected on a powerful example of what partisan debate could be in a more civil and edifying environment. That exchange resonated with me deeply because it showed that we can grapple with the most difficult questions of national importance without losing sight of our shared humanity. Washington’s own character was built on this very standard of conduct, and I chose to let that lead the tone of these albums.
