The Road to Liberty project is more than a collection of songs; it is a bridge between the pivotal moments of our past and our commitment to freedom today. We intentionally timed our project milestones to coincide with some of the very dates that forged the American spirit.
March 31: Echoes of Defiance
On March 31, 2026, we officially launched the original Road to Liberty website. We chose this date to mark the anniversary of the Boston Port Act (1774)—not to honor the act itself, but to commemorate the moment the American spirit first unified against it. While the British intended to isolate Boston, their actions instead ignited a wildfire of colonial support. This historical turning point—where a threat to the liberty of one became a call to action for all—is the heart of the song "Americans Forevermore."
May 7: A Global Shift and a Family Divided
On May 7, 2026, we launched our updated site, featuring all three albums and our official America250 sanctioning. This date carries the weight of two massive turning points:
1775: Benjamin Franklin’s Choice – Franklin made a final attempt to bring his Loyalist son, William, to the American cause. The failure of this effort solidified Franklin’s conversion into a fully committed Patriot leader—a transformation that is the subject of "Safe From Hangman’s Noose."
1778: The French Alliance – Following the "Fire of Joy"—a massive celebration at Valley Forge where a ceremonial "running fire" of musketry announced our alliance with France—May 7 marked the first day the Continental Army operated as a formal global ally. This hard-won hope is the subject of "Forged in Ice and Fire."

A View from the Canyon: A Milestone Reached
Following the May 7 launch, project creator Steve Mortensen visited Zion National Park. As he drove the winding road to the trailhead and hiked to a stunning overlook of Zion Canyon, he reflected on how the path to the summit mirrors the three pillars of this project:
The Winding Road to the Trailhead: Parallel to Road to Liberty—the first segment, the preparation, and the path that sets the mission in motion.
The Hike to the Overlook: Parallel to Voices of Liberty—representing the personal experience of the climb and the individual "voice" found within the struggle.
The Spectacular Vista: Parallel to Journey to Liberty—the final realization that combines the entire trek into a single, unified experience.
The Journey to Liberty is far from over, but we have reached a significant milestone. The project is now ready for everyone to experience, coupled with a 130-page Discovery Companion. This guide is our gift to the nation to help us not only celebrate but reflect on and internalize the principles of liberty through thematic exploration and civil conversation—not just as we celebrate our 250th anniversary, but as we carry its legacy forward as a living foundation.
Just as the hike through Zion culminates in moments of quiet reflection above the canyon floor, our national journey invites us to pause and view the vast landscape of our history. Metaphorically, these images from Zion capture the spirit of that climb and the wonder of the world around us, mirroring the endurance, the beauty, and the vital place we each hold in the ongoing American story.
